The Bootcamp

The lack of diversity and inclusion in the tech space is a global challenge, as South African entrepreneurs we need to tackle it head-on. We have made it our mission to change this by ensuring we play a crucial role in plugging the leaky tech pipeline for Female Founders.

The Inclusion

Diversity and inclusion remain a challenge for Corporates, globally. We journey closely with Procurement Managers to co-create and implement strategic interventions. A diverse supply chain is not merely a regulatory imperative, it's simply good business.

The 2017 Ventureburn Tech Startup Survey powered by Telkom Futuremakers found that while the number of black (black African, coloured, Indian or Chinese South African) entrepreneurs running technology startups might be on the rise, most are struggling to make money or access finance. The impact of the lack of diversity and inclusion in the tech space is a global challenge, as South African entrepreneurs we need to tackle it head-on.

We have made it our mission to change this by ensuring we play a crucial role in plugging the leaky tech pipeline by supporting Female Founders to successfully close their Series A funding round. Over the past few years since hosting our first two accelerator programmes, we have gained significant insight into the interventions needed to create a robust tech pipeline for the tech ecosystem. In collaboration with our strategic partners, we are building on the successes and our achievements to date.

THE 88-8 BOOTCAMP

Series A funding rounds can be an exhilarating yet daunting stage for a startup Founder, it signals growth and scalability but also the very real reality of having to face investors perhaps for the first time. Founders have worked tirelessly to get to this point but need support to successfully close their Series A funding round. In our experience, many Founders are not sufficiently prepared to meet investors and fall through the leaky pipeline.

Our accelerator programme supports this very important cohort given the opportunity to scale and create jobs. The 88-8 Bootcamp forms the primary basis for development and changed behaviour by the Female Founders. Our belief is that Founder development equals startup development.

Successfully scaling a startup requires shifting and changing deeply ingrained mindsets while adopting new competencies. The primary objective of our 12-week bootcamp is to prepare Founders to pitch to a panel of investors and ensure post-programmatic success.

The future is female and it will be powered by Blockchain, watch this space for more on how we will support Female Founders specializing in this exciting technology.

The data analytics provided by the PwC Impact Assessment Tool is extremely important for us as it also guides us to implement data driven interventions. We cannot accelerate world-class businesses in isolation, we believe collaboration is the future and what corporates need is a way to connect their strengths and resources with external innovation in order to drive exponential growth and prevent themselves from becoming victims of digital darwinism.
